It sure does look like communication will work the first time I try it. But if I exit the process I can't write to the serial device anymore.
When I get the error the second time I try to start the process, I can open the device, but the error happens the first time I try to send a byte over the serial interface. The error from perror is "Serial: No such file or directory". I can get around this problem by writing a second program that merely opens the cu. This doesn't seem like the best way to fix it, though. I have the new MBP running I installed the drivers from TrendNet and the device showed up in my System Profiler as a Prolific USB serial adapter, but the device wasn't available from either of my terminal programs zterm and goSerial.
Has any one seen this behavior? Can anyone replicate it? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Do you see the same failure-to-reopen if you use a known-good terminal program to open the device, exit, and then open it again? If so perhaps there's a bug in their kernel driver. Are those end-user re-compilable on OSX? David Berkan 1 4. So what you need is a straight through DB9 extender cable, male to female, with screws on both ends. Previous experience with random Chinese converters and their non-standard chipsets has been enough frustration to make this tolerable.
But be forewarned and order the extension cable at the same time. No problems, using it on my Macbook Pro under Yosemite The best part is: No drivers needed, I just plug this device to my USB Macbook Pro and set the correct modem and other parameters in Zterm software for console connection to my equipment and thats it!

Great product! This worked perfectly. I upgraded to Windows 10 and my touch screen monitor quit working. The old serial to usb cable was not compatible with the new version of Windows. This cable fixed it. No software required, I plugged it in and it worked. I could see errors reported when I putty into the serial port. What a hassle, when none of them worked! In fact, they interfere with this cable too! I couldn't get this cable to work as-is. Once I removed them, Windows 7 automatically find the correct driver for it and installed it, then it works like it should be!
